New details about last week’s nerve gas attack in Airstrip One have surfaced. A joint investigation by the Ministries of Love and Peace is still ongoing, but the following can be confirmed.

The primary target has been determined to be a former Eurasian spy, who previously defected and was rehabilitated after seeing for himself the wonderful national spirit and wellbeing of Oceania and the benevolent administration of the Party. On account of this, Eurasia is suspected as the most likely culprit behind the attack. The target and one family member are in critical condition, and several Ministry of Love officers have also suffered injuries from inhaling the neurotoxic gas.

The chemical weapon used in the attack was invented and is primarily produced in Eurasia . It is far deadlier and more sinister than anything made in Oceania, and even in warfare it defies long accepted standards of using humane weaponry. Contamination from the nerve gas has been detected in the target’s home, and cleanup efforts by Ministry of Peace hazardous material experts are underway.

If Eurasian involvement is confirmed, it is expected that the Party will announce new sanctions and offensives against Eurasia for committing this cowardly attack on Oceanian soil. The Ministry of Peace has issued a statement saying that it stands ready to take whatever action is necessary to protect Oceania from further state-sponsored assassinations and terrorism.

Airstrip One locals are advised to be on the lookout for any signs of further covert attacks from Eurasia . There have been a string of suspicious deaths following this pattern in recent years, and enemy aggression towards defectors is at an all time high. Potential Eurasian assassins could be disguised as tourists, Party members, or even proles - no one is beneath suspicion. Therefore, anyone observing the presence of unfamiliar and suspicious persons should report them immediately to the Ministry of Love.
